Making A "BIG" Difference One Child at a Time...
Founded in 1904, BBBS is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in America serving more than 225,000 kids ages 6 through 18 in communities throughout the country. BBBS has earned high marks for its ability to deliver tangible and sustainable results, earning the Forbes "gold star" as one of its top ten charities, the highest "4-star, exceptional" rating from Charitable Navigator, and an "A+" rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy.

BBBS of Hunterdon and Somerset Counties is a qualified IRS Section 501 (c) (3) organization, established in 1974.

What is Our Service?
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the matching up of friends – one adult to one child who needs stability and companionship. Little Brothers and Little Sisters are school-aged children, most of whom live with a single parent. A commitment of 3-5 hours weekly is made by each volunteer to this one-to-one relationship, for a minimum of one year.

The Impact
A recent study showed that children matched in our program for an 18 month period were:

• 46% less likely to start using drugs
• 27% less likely to start drinking
• 52% less likely to skip a day of school
• 33% less likely to engage in violent behavior
• More confident in their performance in school
• Able to get along better with their families
